Finally...Orientation details

I finally received notification of my orientation location! (Within the past couple weeks I have met two recent UNC grads who will be in my training group! Small world, huh? ) I will be living in Cayambe, about 1.5 hours outside Quito and just above the equator . The small town is in the "Sierra" or highlands, and is named after the nearby volcano. Volcan Cayambe is Ecuador's third highest peak at 5, 790 m, and is the highest point in the world crossed by the Equator and the only point on the Equator with snow cover. Yes, it will be cold according to my thermostat, at 45-70 degrees (thanks Whit for your patience at REI, Candace for your wonderful packing advice, and Mary for your warm sweaters!), but I'm sure the mountain views and rich culture will make up for the temperature!
While I am itching to leave, I am thankful for the time I have been able to spend with friends and family. I will miss you all more than you can imagine. I think this is the last post I will write before I depart...and thanks so much for the wonderful items you have given me...I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
